Accessibility is a breeze with ample parking and Grindleford Station is just a stone’s throw away. There is free parking on a rough bit of ground to the right of the cafe. If those are full then you can park in the station parking bays, but you do have to pay for this.

Rumour has it that Phil Eastwood, the cafe’s owner, once declined a lucrative offer for the establishment. Such is his love for the place, a sentiment that’s been in his family for over four decades.

Grindleford to Padley Gorge Walk

After breakfast I set off along Padley Gorge. I felt transported into the magical realms of Narnia and the captivating landscapes from The Hobbit film series and amidst the ancient, twisted trees, I imagined I might bump into Bilbo Baggins.

This mesmerising trail is great for families. Children will enjoy splashing in the stream and scrambling over the boulders. Spanning an easy 2.7km loop, an intriguing aspect of this walk is that it represents one of the UK’s most inland temperate rainforests. Recognised for its significance, Padley was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1972. It stands as a testament to the oak-birch woodlands that once blanketed the gritstone uplands of the Peak District. Moreover, it serves as a vital nesting site for three bird species: the Pied Flycatcher, the Woodwarbler, and the Hawfinch.
